Success for FUHS wrestlers

FALLBROOK — On Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6, 12 Fallbrook High School varsity wrestlers competed in the Jim Londos Memorial Tournament at East Lake High School in Escondido. Six of them made it to the second day, with Jacob Wagaman taking fourth place out of 38 wrestlers at 215 lbs. On the same Saturday the frosh/soph team battled in the JV Future Champions Tournament at Buena Park High School. Jacob Gandy went undefeated and took first place at 152 lbs while Bud Jones at 160 lbs, Brian Long and Gabe San Miguel at 189 lbs and Garrett Robins at 215 lbs all took third place.

Last Thursday, January 11, the team had their first league dual against Rancho Buena Vista High School. The freshman and JV teams both won their duals but the varsity lost theirs.

Tonight’s dual is against Vista at Vista High School starting at 5:30 p.m. Then Friday and Saturday the girls team will be competing in the CIF Girls South Regional at South Hills High School and on Saturday the JV team will be at the San Ysidro JV Tournament.

These are all great opportunities to go support the teams, but the best and easiest will be the last two home duals on Thursdays, January 25 and February 1. The coaches want to stress the need to fill the stands at both of these and particularly invite all the sponsors to attend and cheer the wrestlers on to victory, especially on February 1, “Senior Night,” when the coaches will recognize all the hard work and commitment of the soon-to-graduate seniors.

Once again, the FUHS wrestling program would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Adopt-a Wrestler sponsors and everyone else who has given so generously this year to support the team, especially the upper level Team Sponsors: Dorman Construction, Valley Short Pour, Bonsall Construction, BITF Sports, Del Sol Trucking, Ultra Graphix and Major Market.
