New trends in window coverings

FALLBROOK — Walk into a room without window coverings and their absence is noticeable. However, window coverings are much more than just functional, must-have pieces of décor that enhance privacy.

“Window coverings are evolving and are being used to complement the overall look of a room, pull a look together and even enhance lifestyle,” said Yvonne Dawkins of Budget Blinds, which serves Bonsall, Fallbrook and north Escondido.

Here are some trends to look for in 2007.

Embrace color: Window treatments are available in a wide variety of colors and materials that are sure to complement any décor. Whether a style embraces the bold, spicy colors of Moroccan styles or the soft, muted tones of the beach or the clean, crisp espresso brown and milky white palette of a metropolitan loft, window treatments can echo it.

Back to the beach! The muted colors reminiscent of rolling surf and soft sand are prevalent this year. Pale blues and greens, sands, light mochas, creams and whites are the palette. Carry this look to the window with woven woods, roller shades in woven wood materials, shutters and Roman shades!

Soft treatments are making a comeback. A new product design to consider is a Roman shade that hides the operating cords between two fabrics that create a honeycomb effect. This allows homeowners to choose different colors of fabric for each room in the home while showing all white backings, but no cords, to the street.

“We provide turnkey service for our customers,” said Dawkins. “We come to your home with all of our window covering samples, take measurements, place the order and then professionally install the product for you when it arrives.”

This service is also available to local area businesses. To schedule an appointment for a free in-home consultation with Dawkins, call Budget Blinds at (760) 723-5555.
