An attempt to stop probes into government corruption

I really enjoyed Steve Breens’ cynical cartoon (NC Times, 1/17/07), as well as that day’s editorial.

The editorial says that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales “performed a stunning disservice to San Diego” by arbitrarily and unilaterally firing Carol Lam, our US Attorney. As a citizen, I object to this administration’s disreputable tactics in what appears to be an attempt to stop continuing probes into corruption in our federal government.

After Carol Lam convicted Duke Cunningham, her gift to San Diego County and its citizens, can’t you just hear the whispers in Washington about who might be next in her ongoing investigation into corruption at the highest level of our elected and appointed government officials? Now after Alberto Gonzales’ removal and partisan replacement of seven US Attorneys, now without the need for senate confirmation, my guess is no one will.
