A busy weekend ahead for FUHS wrestlers

FALLBROOK — The dual against Vista last week was a difficult one for all three of Fallbrook High School wrestling teams. Both the freshman and JV teams were short many wrestlers due to illness, and though both lost their dual meets against Vista, match for match they held their own; four of the five freshmen won their duals and three of six on the JV team won theirs.

The varsity team is struggling this year with so many wrestlers new to the sport. However, Jacob Wagaman at 215 lbs pinned his opponent in 1:15 minutes, while Zack Plum at 152 lbs and David Lopez at 103 lbs pinned their opponents in the third period. Brett Jones got a takedown at the end of the match for an 8-6 win. The dual meet score for the varsity team was 59-21.

Tonight the dual meet is in Fallbrook on Warrior territory against Oceanside. Freshman/JV wrestling will start at 5:30 p.m. and varsity starts at 7:00. With fans filling the stands and cheering them on, the team will have a true home dual advantage. The team especially encourages all the Adopt-a-Wrestler benefactors to come tonight, one of the last home duals, to get an up close and personal view of their adopted wrestler.

This weekend three of the teams will be at tournaments. On Friday and Saturday the varsity team will be at the Cougar Classic in Moreno Valley, while the girls will be at the California Girls Invitational in Hanford. Also on Saturday, the freshmen will be at the LCC Freshmen Tournament at La Costa Canyon.

Once again, the FUHS wrestling program would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Adopt-a Wrestler sponsors and everyone else who has given so generously this year to support the team, especially the upper level Team Sponsors: Dorman Construction, Valley Short Pour, Bonsall Construction, BITF Sports, Del Sol Trucking, Ultra Graphix and Major Market.
