Girls water polo defeats Wildcats

On Friday, January 19, the Fallbrook Warriors varsity girls water polo team faced off against the El Camino Wildcats. The Warriors (9-8) (3-1 in league), coached by Michael Hatcher, defeated the Wildcats 9-5. Some exciting moments of the game included: many fast breaks by Lindsey Urquhart, the crowd receiving a red card for booing and many heads under the water.

The game began with Fallbrook down 3-0 until Urquhart scored with four seconds left in the first quarter. This score then sparked the Warriors as they outscored the Wildcats 5-0, making the score Fallbrook 6, El Camino 3 going into halftime. After half, a fabulous save by Sydney Fitzpatrick set up a goal by Laura Shaffer, making the score 7-3. The score held until El Camino scored two goals to end the third. With the score 7-5, Urquhart scored two more goals to make the game out of reach. The final score was 9-5.

Some of the key standouts were: Urquhart (five goals), Nicole Walker (two goals), Rachel Lackey (one goal), Laura Shaffer (one goal) and Fitzpatrick (six saves).

The team is doing great and looks to finish out the league undefeated. Remember to come support girls water polo at their next home game on January 26 against Rancho Buena Vista at 3:45 p.m.
