Time to keep the community clean

In June 2007, Fallbrook will be listed as one of the “100 Best Art Communities in America” The town should put its best foot forward, so the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance (FBA) is working with its community partners to aggressively clean up and beautify Fallbrook.

Residents are requested to keep their neighborhoods clean. Littering and graffiti is a sign of disrespect to everyone, including neighbors and the community. Sidewalks, streets, alleyways, backyards and lots should be kept clean at all times. In addition to keeping the area around homes clean, here are five simple ways that residents can help keep their neighborhood clean:

• Keep the sidewalk and the street in front of homes or businesses free of litter, non-working cars, old appliances and furniture.

• Don’t sweep trash, leaves or lawn clippings into the street. Instead, put litter and yard waste into a garbage bag for disposal or composting.

• Set an example. When walking around the neighborhood, take a small trash bag along. If there is a piece of trash on the ground, pick it up. This will set a great example for the neighbors, especially the children.

• Get to know the local sanitation crew. Personal contact with sanitation staff may be a good way to get a problem solved. Let them know people care and write a letter of praise to their superiors when they do a good job.

• Alert County Code Enforcement, Fire Department of problem areas or when illegal dumping occurs. If litter is repeatedly dumped in certain areas, notify the police and provide them with as much detail as possible about the problem and the problem area.

Everyone’s help in cleaning up the neighborhoods and the Village is much appreciated.

The Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, a non-profit organization, was formed in 2004 to address maintenance and beautification issues in Fallbrook.
