Netherlands Rotary members stay in local Rotarians' homes

FALLBROOK — Netherlands Rotary District Governors Elect Hans Meerburg and Henk Olde Riekerink, representing two of the seven Rotary Districts in Holland, with spouses, are “Homestaying” with local Rotary Club of Fallbrook members. They have come to San Diego to join 524 other Rotary District Governors Elect from around the world at the Rotary International Assembly for what amounts to “Basic Training” for District Governors 2007-2008, which is being held this year in San Diego at the Manchester Hyatt. Such meetings not only cover the mechanics of running a Rotary District, but emphasize Rotary precepts such as “Service Above Self”, and promote other Rotary International efforts such as world peace, polio eradication, A Thousand Smiles, child education, aiding destitute individuals and villages in third world countries, student and teacher exchanges, and scholarships, and matching grants programs around the world.
