Great victory for FUHS wrestling

FALLBROOK — On Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20, three female Fallbrook Union High School (FUHS) wrestling members, Sonia Martinez, Jessica Koch and team captain Patty Diaz, competed in the CIF Girls Wrestling Southern Regional Tournament. Though Diaz, who took fourth place at 125 lbs, was the only one to place, all three qualified to go to the California Girls Invitational Tournament in Hanford last weekend.

That same Saturday the JV wrestling team won the San Ysidro JV Tournament with 185 team points. All 13 wrestlers placed as follows:

• Gabe San Miguel at 189 lbs took first

• Henry Sosa at 125 lbs, Sean Foley at 135 lbs and Kyle DiCillo at 171 lbs all took second

• Amir Adeia at 112 lbs, Anthony Pando at 119 lbs, Jacob Albritton at 125 lbs, Marco Salazar at 140 lbs and Bud Jones at 160 lbs each took third

• Thomas Bickford at 112 lbs took fourth

• Bill Shuster at 130 lbs, Kelly Brower at 152 lbs and Joe Noblit at 215 lbs took fifth

The second place team, Mt. Carmel, earned 167 points. This was a great victory for FUHS wrestlers, who say the win “bodes well for the future.”

Last Thursday, January 25, the teams were at home against Oceanside High. This was the most successful dual so far this season, as both FUHS teams won. The JV team won with a score of 24-19; the varsity team, with a score of 47-27. It was very exiting for the fans to watch.

Tonight the team has a dual meet at home against El Camino. Freshman/JV wrestling will start at 5:30 and varsity wrestling starts at 7:00. This, the last home dual of the season, is Senior Night, during which coaches will recognize the growth, commitment and hard work of all senior wrestlers. The teams especially encourage all the Adopt-a-Wrestler benefactors to come tonight to get an up-close view of their adopted wrestlers.

Finally, this coming Saturday, February 3, the JV team will be competing in the JV County Championships at Mount Carmel High School. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.

Once again, the FUHS wrestling program would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Adopt-a Wrestler sponsors and everyone else who has given so generously this year to support the team, especially the upper level Team Sponsors: Dorman Construction, Valley Short Pour, Bonsall Construction, BITF Sports, Del Sol Trucking, Ultra Graphix and Major Market.
