California ReLeaf invests in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK- The Save Our Forest branch of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy is busy implementing a grant for 57 new trees in Fallbrook. California ReLeaf, the grantor, has been instrumental in the greening of Fallbrook since 1996 when the first community Tree Planting Festival occurred. According to Jackie Heyneman, SOF spokesperson, their support in building the Fallbrook community forest has been a vital element in the planting of more than 600 trees in the town center area by SOF.

Inspired by a survey in the early 90’s, Save Our Forest set out to enhance and improve the economical stability of the business area with the backing of the Fallbrook Village Association. Creating pedestrian friendly shopping has proven to be a major factor in the revitalization of communities all over the U. S.

California ReLeaf is the volunteer coordinator for urban forestry in partnership with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Their mission is to empower grassroots efforts and build strategic partnerships that preserve, protect, and enhance California’s urban and community forest. This grant was made possible by California State Proposition 12.

The implementation of this project involves acquiring tree planting permits, coordinating future care, educational seminars, and getting Dig-Alert to research locations. Planting has begun and must be completed by October 2007. This grant provides all of the initial costs of planting, as well as materials for educating tree recipients. Save Our forest has committed to providing an individual consultant, a pruning seminar, and then a structural pruning at three years.
