Darren Hansen, Allison Logue, and Hillary Price of Fallbrook High School and Isaac Taylor of Ivy High School were honored as exemplary students at the Fallbrook Community Student of the Month breakfast held February 1 at Hukilau Restaurant at Fallbrook Golf Club.

“The four of you are truly an inspiration to us,” said emcee Sue Johnson. The Fallbrook Community Student of the Month program, in its 11th year, has now honored 331 outstanding high school students.

Darren Hansen was nominated for the Student of the Month honor by Fallbrook High government teacher and yearbook advisor Dave Evans.

“[Darren] has risen to a leadership role,” Evans said. “He is a gentleman, scholar, athlete, and he is the man of the year.”

In addition to having a strong academic record, Hansen participates in cross country and track team, is a member of the academic decathlon, and serves as Editor in Chief of the Fallbrook High School yearbook.

“I stepped up for the yearbook because it needed to get done,” Hansen said. “I want to thank my family and Mr. Evans for helping me get where I am.” Hansen announced he will attend California Lutheran University on a sizeable academic scholarship.

Allison Logue was selected as a Student of the Month based on a recommendation by Fallbrook High School English teacher Betz Critchley.

“Allison will do great things in life; she is a natural role model,” Critchley said. “She is very committed to her goals.”

Serving as the Associated Student Body (ASB) vice president this year, Logue is a member of the Student Council and on the FHS academic decathlon team.

Described as energetic and hard-working, Logue chaired the school Prom in 2006.

“This feels surreal,” Logue said. “I want to thank my dedicated parents. I am always reminded that nothing is out of my reach. Thank you all so much.”

Hillary Price was recommended for the Student of the Month honor by FHS Field Hockey Coach Kathy Waite.

“Hillary is a dedicated athlete and a wonderful person; she has had to deal with many challenges,” Waite said. “She is a great role model.”

Price has a strong athletic background including participation in softball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. Teachers and family members describe her as a strong and positive person that “stays focused.” She is a talented pianist (7th level) and a Ticktocker with National Charity League, San Luis Rey Chapter. She enjoys volunteering her time at the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County and Fallbrook Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility.

“I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to be involved in a lot of different activities,” Price said. “I can’t believe I got this award just for doing the things that I like!”

Isaac Taylor was named Student of the Month based on the recommendation of Ivy High School teacher Michael Mistriel.

“ puts others before himself,” Mistriel said. “He is an ‘A’ student and an exceptional individual. He is loved by the staff.”

Taylor was described at the event as being quiet, caring and helpful. Honored as a model student, Mistriel said Taylor is ‘a joy to have in class.’ An artistic individual that is also referred to as a ‘gifted’ guitarist, Taylor has a humble demeanor.

“I would like to thank Mr. Mistriel for nominating me,” Taylor said. “Ivy High School is pretty nice. They have helped me achieve my goals and I enjoy my time there.”

Family members, friends and members of the business and service community, as well as representatives of elected officials attended the event, provided certificates of achievement and gifts to honor the students selected.
