Annual "Senior Night" held To honor senior wrestlers

Last Thursday the last Home Dual of this season took place along with the Annual “Senior Night” celebration. Lauren Stewart, the Senior Stat Girl, received roses and a wrestling pin while the 6 Varsity Seniors, Juventino Arroyo, Garrett Miller, Shannon Cone, Corey Meram, Jacob Wagaman, and Ray Valdez were honored with trophies recognizing their years on the team, presented a pin to their fathers and roses to their mothers, and each got the opportunity to thank all those people in their lives who had made it possible for them to have successful wrestling careers at FUHS. Two of them, Shannon Cone and Jacob Wagaman topped the night off by winning their last home matches. Congratulations to one and all!

Two weekends ago the Varsity Team was at the Cougar Classic in Moreno Valley, one of the toughest tournaments in Southern California. Of the 9 wrestlers who went, 6 made it to the second day and 2 medaled. Jacob Wagaman at 215 lbs made it to the semifinals where he reinjured his ankle and was forced to default his match; he still earned 6th place. Brett Jones took 5th place at 103 lbs by winning his very tough last match with a score of 10-2.

That same weekend, Patty Diaz, the only girl of Fallbrook’s three who qualified, was able to go to the California Girls Invitational in Hanford and ended 1 match short of qualifying for the State Championships; better luck next time Patty! That Saturday, the Freshmen went to a new tournament for us, the La Costa Canyon Freshman Tournament, where Marco Salazar took 5th place at 140 lbs.

Tonight the team will be at Carlsbad for the last dual of this season. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 5:30 in the gym at Carlsbad High School. Then this coming Saturday, the JV Team will be at the JV County Championships at Mt. Carmel High School. These, along with next weekends CIF Divisional Tournament, will be the last local opportunities to come and cheer on the wrestlers, so let’s all turn out and show them how much everyone has appreciated all the hard work and dedication they have shown this season

Finally, the team wants to express their profound gratitude to their Adopt-a Wrestler sponsors and everyone else who has given so generously this year to support the team, especially the upper level Team Sponsors: Dorman Construction, Valley Short Pour, Bonsall Construction, BITF Sports, Del Sol Trucking, Ultra Graphix, and Major Market. Remember it’s never too late to donate, so any individual or company who wants to be a Team or Adopt-a-Wrestler sponsor or who is seeking further information on other ways they can support the boys and girls should contact Bonnie Wagaman at (760) 473-5203. Go Fallbrook Warriors!
