'Art of Today' on display at Art Center

The current show at the Fallbrook Art Center, “Art of Today… Artists of Tomorrow,” will remain on display until February 25 and will include two special events. The Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. There is a suggested donation for admission for non-members, while Art Center members and students are free.

Inspired by the Brooke Thom Memorial Art Show, this exhibition features works in all mediums and processes, including installation, conceptual and performance art pieces, done by students of high schools in Fallbrook, Oceanside, Vista and Temecula. Scholarships will be awarded. Past recipients of the Brooke Thom Memorial and the Fallbrook Art Association annual scholarship programs will also have work on view.

The first special event, an inaugural “Happening,” will take place on Saturday, February 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Anyone who would like to be a part of art may attend. The “Happening” is described as “a performance, event or situation meant to be considered as art.” The public is warned that this is not a typical event. There will be live music (a collaboration with the Fallbrook Music Society), performance art (courtesy of Vista High School), fun food and drink, a chance to see film and be filmed (a collaboration with the Fallbrook Film Factory) and the opportunity to see art and be an artist. The Center asks that only adults attend. Funds raised will benefit the Student Scholarship Fund and the nonprofit Art Center at Fallbrook. Tickets are limited; call (760) 728-1414 to reserve a place.

The second special event is a closing reception, to be held Saturday, February 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Attendees will meet the student artists and enjoy refreshments. The reception is free to Art Center members and students. For the cost for others, please contact the Art Center, located at 103 South Main Avenue and at http://www.fallbrookart.org.
