MS Walk scheduled for April 28-29

The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society’s Pacific South Coast Chapter has announced that its 2007 San Diego County Credit Union MS Walk, with an estimated 11,000 walkers, will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at Legoland in Carlsbad and at 8:30 a.m. the next day, Sunday, April 29, at Embarcadero Marina Park South, behind the San Diego Convention Center, in downtown San Diego.

National MS Society officials are hoping to exceed totals from the annual MS Walk fundraiser held in 2006, when a record 10,725 people walked and raised $1.87 million for MS research and services for people with MS, a chronic, unpredictable and disabling disease of the central nervous system with no known cure.

MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young- to middle-aged adults. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, and more than twice as many women as men have MS. Symptoms can vary greatly from person to person and from time to time in the same person and can range from numbness in the limbs and extreme fatigue to loss of balance and muscle coordination or paralysis.

There is no charge to be a walker and no minimum donation is required, although walkers are encouraged to solicit sponsors and raise at least $25. Online registration for the 2007 MS Walk is now available at http://www.mswalk.com.
