Oceanside's consideration of stadium is mind-boggling

Switching from national issues for a moment, I must say how disappointed I am with the council and the people of Oceanside for even considering giving up open space in exchange for more cement and asphalt! This seaside community has already garnered a reputation as a “concrete jungle” – and wonders why tourists prefer Carlsbad and points south.

To think that the Oceanside population is so mesmerized by the “NFL hype” that they are willing to give up even a few acres of precious open space for professional sports - and the inevitable rock concerts/goliath trucks/dirt bikes, et cetera - is mind-boggling. Is it so important to increase your city’s taxable income that you are willing to give up your birthright? Have any of you had the misfortune to be trapped in the traffic morass that is Mission Valley during an event down there? It’s God awful!

What do we care if the NFL thinks that Qualcomm is not up to NFL Super Bowl standards? Let them go elsewhere – and good riddance!
