Wrestling's dual season ends - CIF Divisional ahead

FALLBROOK- The Fallbrook High School wrestling teams had their last dual of the season last Thursday against Carlsbad High School, one of the top rated teams in the county. Although the boys fought valiantly and had many close matches, in the end both teams lost. On the varsity team David Lopez at 112 lbs and Hayden Lundy at 135 lbs won by points, while Henry Sosa at 119 lbs and Juvention “Tino” Arroyo both pinned their opponents. Arroyo, a first-year senior, ended the season and his high school career on a high point with his first pin of the season.

On February 3 the JV wrestlers were at the JV County Championships, their last tournament of the season. All but two were first-year wrestlers, yet three took fourth place: Jacob Albritton at 125 lbs, Gabriel San Miguel at 171 lbs and Antonio Ibarra. Fans can look forward to watching the trio wrestle next year with even greater success.

Now it is time for the varsity wrestlers to move on to the CIF Divisional Tournament this Saturday at Otay Ranch High School in Chula Vista. The top eight finishers in each weight class at this tournament qualify for the Masters Tournament taking place the following Saturday, February 24, and hopefully then for State Championships being held on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3. This may be the last chance to see the wrestlers compete this year, and for the seniors it will be the last chance in their high school careers. Anyone who can make it is encouraged to cheer the team on to victory.

The team wants to thank each and every person who turned out to support them this season, particularly the Adopt-a-Wrestler and Adopt-a-Team sponsors, especially the upper level Team Sponsors: Dorman Construction, Valley Short Pour, Bonsall Construction, BITF Sports, Del Sol Trucking, Ultra Graphix and Major Market.

And remember, it’s never too late to donate! All funds raised will be used to help cover the team’s expenses at the CIF, Masters, State and, if anyone gets that far, National Tournaments this year, with all funds left over going to support the FUHS Warrior wrestlers next year. Any individual or company wishing to become a team or wrestler sponsor or would like further information on other ways to support the boys and girls should contact Bonnie Wagaman at (760) 473-5203. Go Fallbrook Warriors!
