'Annie Warbucks' brings change for actor

“He who would accomplish little need sacrifice little; he who would achieve much must sacrifice much. He who would attain highly must sacrifice greatly.”

– James Allen

This quote would represent the sentiments of most people if they were to shave off all of their hair, but for actor Roy Pulido, it is actually not much of a sacrifice.

“I was reflecting at the beginning of the new year how I was ready for some change in my life, and here I am changing my appearance, at least,” said Pulido. “While I’ll agree it isn’t a whopping transformation, these things tend to lead from one to another, so I am excited.”

Pulido, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, is playing the role of Daddy Warbucks in the Fallbrook Players Junior Conservatory (FPJC) production of “Annie Warbucks,” playing at the Fallbrook Mission Theater next month.

“I am eager to bring this character to the stage,” said Pulido. “In the play ‘Annie,’ Daddy Warbucks is a less significant role, but in ‘Annie Warbucks,’ he is a pivotal player who is the catalyst for much of what happens… Also, the music is more sophisticated than in ‘Annie,’ so I am looking forward to the audience’s reaction when they see this for the first time.”

The world’s favorite orphan returns in the long-awaited sequel to the international smash-hit “Annie.” The adventure continues with new songs, new heroes, new villains and new problems to be solved. All the ingredients that made “Annie” so successful are here once again, with an old-fashioned romance thrown in for good measure!

“This is a perfect time for FPJC to be producing ‘Annie Warbucks,’” remarked Pulido, “as CAST will just be finishing their run of ‘Annie’ and it will be fun for everyone to see how the story finally ends.”

Also, each person who attends CAST’s production of “Annie” will receive a “Warbuck,” which is a coupon worth a dollar off the purchase of a ticket to the sequel, said FPJC publicity director Jane Stimmel.

“While there might be some confusion, if everyone buys tickets for both productions, they can’t go wrong,” Stimmel added, laughing. “Everyone remembers how fabulous ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was and they are looking forward to seeing another production of that caliber.”

“Annie Warbucks” plays March 16-25 at the Mission Theater. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.FallbrookTheater.com.
