AAUW to present Holocaust survivor

The Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) presents holocaust survivor Gussie Zaks at its general meeting Saturday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the Fallbrook Public Utility District Building, 990 East Mission.

Zaks was born in Poland in 1926. One year after the Nazis invaded Poland, at the tender age of 14, Zaks was sent to the first of several Nazi labor camps in Germany. Her last camp was the infamous death camp Bergen Belsen, where on April 15, 1945, she was liberated by the British Armed Forces. Fifteen months later she was reunited with and adopted by her aunt, who was living in Belgium. Zaks immigrated to America in 1951, became a seamstress, married and had two children.

Zaks has lectured on the Holocaust at schools, universities, churches, synagogues and many organizations. Her accolades are many, including the Heritage Humanitarian Award.

The Fallbrook Branch of AAUW is, indeed, very fortunate to have this remarkable woman to come to Fallbrook and share her incredible life experience. All members of the community are invited to this meeting. For further information contact Ann DeBriere at (760) 723-3033.
