Fallbrook Food Pantry

FALLBROOK — On Saturday, February 17, the members of the board of directors of the Fallbrook Food Pantry hosted a luncheon at the Fallbrook United Methodist Church for the volunteers who work at the food pantry. Of the approximately 60 people who collectively volunteer more than 150 hours of service each week, 45 attended to receive the appreciation of the board of directors.

Volunteers in attendance included those who work as receptionists, checking in clients, and those who put together the bags of food for the clients to take home. Some of the volunteers pick up donated foods and make food deliveries, while others stock the shelves and assist the kitchen crew.

Marty Warner, the board member who coordinates the volunteer program and makes sure there are workers at the pantry each day, organized the luncheon. The menu consisted of appetizers with punch and coffee, lasagna, a variety of salads, garlic bread and sugar cookies, cake and brownies for dessert. Rex Morlan, vice president of the board, and wife Jennifer provided table decorations and door prizes.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Herman Van den Bosch, the director of the annual CROP Walk in Fallbrook. Van den Bosch related some of the history of the CROP Walk and explained why it is so important to support this worthwhile cause. An incredible number of people die from hunger each year. People around the world have been participating in CROP Walks for more than 34 years to help their cause.

“We walk because they walk” – millions of people around the world walk every day for food, for shelter, for water, for survival. Individuals can make a real difference in this community and the world – by walking or sponsoring a walker in the Fallbrook CROP Walk, to be held in Fallbrook on Sunday, March 25. It will start and finish at the Fallbrook Food Pantry.

“The members of the board of directors of the Fallbrook Food Pantry wish to again thank all the volunteers who give so generously of their time and energy to do the work of the food pantry,” said Jean Dooley. “We appreciate you!”
