Art & The Book to host ten Friends of Library groups

Ten Friends of the Library organizations from around San Diego County will join the Friends of the Fallbrook Library at Art & The Book, a one-day festival featuring the sale of rare and collectible books April 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Fallbrook.

Rare, collectible and favorite classics as well as gently used books from the inventories of Alpine, Cardiff, Fletcher Hills, Lakeside, Oceanside, Poway, Ramona, Sun City, Valley Center and Vista will be available for sale during the event, along with selections from the Fallbrook Friends’ collection. Proceeds from the book sales will benefit the libraries represented.

Art & The Book also officially kicks off Fallbrook’s fourth annual Community Read. The 2007 selection is “My Life in France” by Julia Child and Alex Prud’homme. A highlight of the festival and the Community Read will be “Pleasures of the Table,” an exhibition of French memorabilia, art and accessories in the main gallery of the Art Center April 1-6. The exhibition will include French-themed quilts created by local artisans as well as an extensive bookmark collection.

In addition to Friends groups, several local area authors will be available to sell and sign their works. There will also be displays by local artists, the Fallbrook Historical Society and the Fallbrook Music Society, plus live music, workshops and demonstrations. The library will offer children’s crafts activities from 1 to 4 p.m. and the Fallbrook Gem & Mineral museum and gift shop will be open featuring children’s books on minerals and fossils. Admission to the festival is free. For information, contact Jane McKee at (760) 728-6373.
