Potter student wins chess tournament

Potter Junior High School student Mike Callahan studies the board during a recent chess tournament at Potter. Callahan was later named tournament champion and presented with an electronic chess set donated by the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club. Thirty-five students vied for first place in the no-elimination competition. Callahan is a second-time champion; he also won a tournament last November and was presented with a 20-pound turkey donated by Major Market. Chess has proven popular at Potter, as more than 60 students play daily during lunch in Mrs. Oshiro’s classroom.
