Success stays in Fallbrook!

Throughout these last few weeks, the members of the Fallbrook FFA have been busy with a variety of activities. These many events have included traveling to the Tulare World Ag Expo, competing at the UC Davis Parliamentary Procedure competition and field day, competing at the Escondido and San Diego Section Parliamentary Procedure contests and holding the 73rd Annual Fallbrook FFA Chapter Banquet last Friday.

On February 14, the Fallbrook FFA traveled all of the way up to Tulare for the Tulare World Ag Expo. At this event, there are a variety of companies that come from around the world to make exhibits in Tulare for the public. This was an outstanding opportunity for students from the Fallbrook FFA to see all of the different areas of agriculture and look at the variety of booths set up for colleges with strong agriculture programs that are offered to its students.

When the chapter took 20 members to the UC Davis Parliamentary Procedure contest and field day, the students had the opportunity to compete with teams from the entire state of California, watch other teams compete in the contests and look around the beautiful town of Davis. On the way home from this event, the group traveled up to Galt, CA, where the newly built California FFA Center is stationed. This center is the new home to the state officer team and has a variety of conference halls to hold meetings that are in a central area.

On March 10, Fallbrook FFA took the Specialty Animal, Vegetable, Horse, Farm Records, BIG, Farm Power and Floriculture teams to the Warner Springs Field Day. All of the teams were successful, including the Specialty Animal team, which placed first; Vegetable team A, which placed third; Vegetable team B, which placed fourth; Horse team, which placed third; Farm Records, which placed first; BIG, which placed first; and Farm Power, which placed third.

Last Wednesday, Fallbrook FFA hosted the San Diego Section Parliamentary Procedure Contest, and both the novice and advanced teams were extremely successful; Advanced A placed first and Novice placed second. All the members who attended gained a lot of experience from competing and are looking forward to competing at the Region contest at Cal Poly Pomona this Saturday.

Along with this, last Friday, Fallbrook FFA held its 73rd Annual Chapter Banquet. There were over 300 people who attended and students earned a variety of awards. There were a large group of members who received their Greenhand, Chapter and State Degrees. Congratulations to all of those who earned a degree this year:

• Kevin McGuire, Star Greenhand Award

• Jules Duffin, Star Chapter Award

• Emily Sherman and Becca Dutton, Senior Blue and Gold Award

• Emily Sherman, Leadership Award

• Melissa Morrison, Scholastic Award.

The Greenhand Officer Team and the Chapter Officer Team were recognized, as were the two Honorary Chapter Farmer recipients, Mr. and Mrs. Kister, and Brad and Dan Janikowski with JPI. Congratulations to all the individuals who received recognition.

Earlier this week, we took members to the middle schools in town to recruit members for the FFA program next year. This weekend, Fallbrook FFA will be taking three teams to the Southern Region Parliamentary Procedure Finals, and on March 31 there will be a group of FFA members attending the Cal Poly Pomona Field Day. At the field day, the Region meeting will be held, Tatiana Prestininzi will be giving a speech in hopes of being elected as the 2007-2008 Region President and Maggie Maratsos will be giving a speech in hopes of being elected as the 2007-2008 Region Vice President at large. Although these last couple of weeks have been packed with activities, the Fallbrook FFA chapter has been extremely successful and is looking forward to achievements at future events.

That is all for this week. Thank you for reading!
