Ribbon-cutting to be held for battery recycling program

FALLBROOK — Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green (KFCG) will inaugurate its new community program for recycling household dry cell batteries on Monday, March 26, at 3:45 p.m. at the Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD) parking lot. Representatives from the three sponsoring groups – KFCG, FPUD and the Angel Society – will officially initiate the program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an informal reception. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Thanks to the philanthropic generosity of the Angel Society of Fallbrook, the organizational efforts of KFCG and the operational expertise of FPUD, Fallbrook residents will now be able to drop off all types of dry cell batteries at a curbside container installed in the FPUD parking lot. New state regulations prohibit the disposal of all chemicals, paints, oils, florescent lights, electronic equipment and household dry cell batteries, just to name a few, in household trash. These items must now be recycled at special Household Hazardous Waste facilities.

With the establishment of this program, Fallbrook residents will no longer need to drive all the way to Ramona, the closest Hazardous Waste facility, to properly dispose of hazardous items or store their dry cell batteries and wait for the next House Hazardous Waste Collection event. Fallbrookians can now drop off their batteries in town at their convenience. All dry cell batteries may be deposited at FPUD in the new bright green recycling container easily visible in the parking lot.
