Beware: pet food recalled

The county veterinarian is alerting all pet owners about a major recall affecting 60 million containers of wet pet food sold at Wal-Mart, PetSmart Inc., Safeway, Kroger and other stores. Dry food is currently not affected.

The contaminated food is believed to be responsible for the kidney failure and subsequent death of 10 dogs and cats. The recall affects 40 cat food and 48 dog food labels, including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba.
