Potter staffers hold chili cook-off

The staff of Potter Junior High School recently “fired things up” with their first chili cook-off. Many staff members entered their favorite chili recipes, including “Aunt Elaine’s ‘When Pritikin Was In,’” “Grandma’s Chili,” “Granny Goose’s Chili,” “Muy Bueno Chili,” “Noname Chili,” “The Coolest Chili in Town,” “Turkey Chili,” “Luck o’ the Irish Chili” and “Camping Chili” (which looked remarkably similar to an unopened can of Hormel).

The competition was fierce, but one chili reigned supreme: Lisa Manring’s “Muy Bueno Chili,” which took home awards for Best Meat Chili and People’s Choice. Robin Sales, creator of the “Noname Chili,” also walked away smiling after winning a blue ribbon for Best Vegetarian Chili.

The staff enjoyed their chili with Lyn Walsh’s delicious Mexican cornbread and refreshing ice cream sundaes. All cook-off contestants received decorated wooden spoons, while specific category winners received gift certificates to Chili’s Restaurant, Hot Tamale candies and chili-themed dishware!
