Beethoven's symphony concludes 29th season

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook Music Society invites all classical music lovers to the final concert of its 2006-2007 season, a special performance of Beethoven’s triumphant choral Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, on Sunday, May 6, in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts.

Maestro Jon Robertson directs the Redlands Symphony Orchestra in this “darkness-to-light” masterpiece that reflects the values of faith and hope in this majestic, musical commentary on the brotherhood of humanity in peace and joy. “This final concert of our 2006-2007 season is a dramatic homage to the elevation of the human spirit as we bring our 29th season to a triumphant close,” says Dr. Brenda Montiel, president of Fallbrook Music Society.

Beethoven’s innovative ninth symphony departed from the standard model for symphonies with the addition of a chorus and soloists. In this not-to-be-missed gala concert, more than 110 voices from the Redlands Symphony Chorus will join the orchestra. The Music Society welcomes soprano Katrina Phipps, mezzo-soprano Preti Ghandi, tenor Gabriel Reoyo and bass Wayne Shepperd.

One can call this concert a Bookend Program, since it begins with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and concludes with his last symphony – the Ninth.

Fallbrook Music Society, a 50l (c) (3) nonprofit organization, presents the finest in symphonic music at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 South Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook. This special symphony performance will take place at 3:00 p.m .; at 2:30 p.m., the conductor will give a preview of the upcoming concert.
