Impeach Bush

Thirty-six townships in Vermont have passed resolutions calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush. (For the impeachment resolution, visit http://www.vermontguardian.com/local/032007/Town

MeetingImpeach.shtml.) Rocky Anderson, mayor of Salt Lake City (Utah is the most Republican state in the country), has also called for impeachment (found at http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_5338136).

There is good reason for this. Incompetence breeds incompetence. This president has demonstrated that he understands and supports the Peter Principle by repeatedly promoting people to their level of incompetence. Witness Michael Brown (you’re doing a heckuva job, Brownie); Harriet Miers, who was rejected by Senate Republicans for her lack of credentials; Alberto Gonzalez, who either can’t remember meetings or lied to Congress; and Lurita Doan, who fired a contract administrator because he would not award a new contract to a vendor who, according to the Inspector General, had already overcharged the government $27 million on the previous contract and was too high on the proposed renewal contract.

Perhaps incompetence is not grounds for impeachment. However, the president is sworn to protect the Constitution. Instead, he has allowed his administrators to undermine the core of our democracy.

Example one: GSA Administrator Lurita Doan, responsible for awarding $55 billion annually in federal contracts, who held a meeting with her staff and White House staff to discuss how to defeat 20 targeted Democratic congressmen.

Example two: San Diego FBI Chief Dan Dzwilewski, who reported that the firing of federal prosecutor Carol Lam was political and would affect ongoing corruption cases. Dzwilewski was later ordered to refrain from further comment. This was after the conviction of Republican Congressman Cunningham and after Lam was reportedly investigating Republican Congressman Jerry Lewis.

Osama bin Laden recruited terrorists to attack our country. George W. Bush recruited political hacks to assault our Constitution. Both deserve to be judged for their actions.
