Hunter, Bresnahan, Whitacre to partake in Sr. All-Star festivity

Tiffany Hunter, Marcus Bresnahan and Len Whitacre will represent Fallbrook High School at the Senior All-Star Basketball Games tomorrow at Mira Mesa High School.

Hunter will be playing for the North team in the North vs. South girls all-star game, Bresnahan will compete in the three-point contest at halftime of the boys game, and Whitacre will be the coach of the North team.

“I was excited to play because Coach Len will be coaching,” Hunter said. “It’s nice for me to play for him one last time before I leave.”

The girls game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game will begin at 8:00 p.m. The three-point shooting contests will take place at halftime of each game.

“I’m just happy to be elected and looking forward to it,” said Bresnahan, who was successful on 83 three-point shots during the 2006-07 season. “It should be fun.”

In addition to taking the Warriors to the CIF Division I semifinals and to their first league championship since 1985, Whitacre is also stepping down as a coach after the all-star game, citing the position’s time commitment and his six grandchildren. Although post-season all-star games are not officially sanctioned by the CIF, CIF Commissioner Dennis Ackerman is also a long-time high school basketball referee and Whitacre received notice from Ackerman that he was selected to be the coach of the North team.

“It will be fun to coach Tiffany again,” Whitacre said. “It will be nice to coach a couple of girls who played so well against us, and it’s a nice way to finish.”
