Fallbrook, Temecula AAUWs announce joint meeting

A joint meeting of the Fallbrook and Temecula branches of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be held Saturday, April 14, at the Golf Club of California at 10 a.m. Program Chairs Ann DeBriere and Christine King have arranged as speaker Dr. Karen Haynes, president of California State University at San Marcos (CSUSM).

Dr. Haynes, one of the most influential women in San Diego County, began her career in education in 1972 as an assistant professor at Southwest Texas State University. She later became the dean of the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston. Ten years later she became the president of the University of Houston in Victoria, TX.

In 2004 she accepted the position of president of CSUSM. In addition to her duties as president of CSUSM she has been engaged in community service in the medical and arts fields, the Boy Scouts of America and the United Way. Her numerous publications primarily address social work and women’s issues.
