Concert fundraiser benefits Russian mission

FALLBROOK — Local Christian pop/punk rock band Sorrow Underfoot performed a benefit concert at Farmhouse Coffee Co. on Saturday afternoon, March 31, to raise funds to assist them on a return trip to the Siberian town of Blagoveshchensk, Russia. The band’s original trip in late November 2006 was part of an outreach with Ambassador Missions and Calvary Chapel Church-Planting Missions. The band played nightly concerts there that were primarily attended by college students.

“After being in Russia and experiencing how excited the youth are to hear about the gospel, we knew, if the Lord provided financially, we would return in June to help and encourage the new church and the kids,” said Brittany Taylor, 17, the band’s guitarist. “They are so hungry to hear about God.”

The band played both original and worship songs on the coffeehouse lawn. Special music was provided by Jaime Heller, youth ministry intern at Riverview Church, and Emily Kettering, the band’s bassist. Concert-goers enjoyed the music and the near-perfect weather while sipping on Farmhouse fruit smoothies or lunching on sandwiches or wraps. Between sets, those attending took advantage of the band’s silent auction. Many decorative baskets filled with donated items and gift certificates gave bidders a wide range of options.

Sorrow Underfoot sends a big thank you to the Farmhouse for hosting the event and to all the silent auction contributors, as they all played a big role in the day’s fundraising success.
