Activities for kids a blast at Avocado Festival

FALLBROOK — What would a community festival be without fun activities for the kids? Elementary school-age children are invited to participate in these free events and compete for prizes.

The Avo 500

Come on, all of you elementary school-age hotrod builders! There are two races where you can show off your aerodynamic capabilities, but you have to use that green bumpy fruit as your “car.” Both races will take place in the El Toro/Bonita Parking Lot, 337 North Main Avenue, starting at 11 a.m.

Race 1: Modified “Cars” – Bring your own avocado “racing car” which you’ve prepared at home. Use your imagination to create wheels and decorative elements on any avocado. The wheelbase of your masterpiece cannot exceed eight inches.

Race 2: Stock “Cars” – Don’t worry if you didn’t have time to prepare a car at home. You can do it “on the spot” by stopping at the avocado racing pits and building your racer with standardized parts. Wheels and avocados are provided and the rest is up to you!

Best Dressed Avocado Contest

In the hands of an imaginative child, a bumpy green avocado can become just about anything! Bring your dressed-up avocado to the El Toro/Bonita Parking Lot by 11:30 a.m. and register for the contest. Judging will start at 12:05 p.m. and the winning entry will be decided on the basis of originality, creativity and use of materials.

Coloring Contest

Students enrolled in the Fallbrook Elementary School District who participated by coloring pictures for the festival will have their completed pictures displayed in various locations downtown. All participants will receive participation ribbons for their work.

Pictures will be accepted until 1 p.m. on the day of the festival – just give them to a Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce representative at the El Toro/Bonita parking lot. Everyone’s a winner!

Participants may pick up their completed pictures and ribbons at the chamber of commerce office until April 30.
