Cinco de Mayo celebration to be held May 6

FALLBROOK — Join members of the community for a free, fun-filled family festival on May 6! The drug- and alcohol-free event will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. that day at Zeke Weaver Memorial Field (next to the Boys & Girls Club) at 315 East Ivy Street.

This event is being hosted by the Front Porch Project (a community mentoring program under the Fallbrook Citizens’ Crime-Prevention/Neighborhood Rehab Committee) and North Inland Communities Prevention Program (a program of Mental Health Systems, Inc.).

Celebrate families, no matter what religious, ethnic, socioeconomic, philosophical or political differences exist. The goal of this festival is to integrate the diverse cultural background in the Fallbrook community and establish a closer relationship with each other by working in harmony toward a common goal. This festival will give attendees a multiethnic cultural experience with a mix of live entertainment and great food. The organization’s motto is “Integrity through diversity.”

Pat Braendel, founder and coordinator of the Fallbrook Citizens’ Crime Prevention/Neighborhood Rehab Committee, established the Front Porch Project, a community mentoring program, in September of 2006. The goal of this project is to establish communication, trust and respect through the exchange of customs and cultures.

“This is a historical first Cinco de Mayo festival in Fallbrook, per the County of San Diego,” said Braendel. “We need the support of the community to join us at the following event in order to accomplish these goals.”

Organizers say the event will provide fun, food, entertainment and resource booths.

“Bring the whole family and let’s celebrate each other with honor,” Braendel encouraged.
