Bresnahan sets record

Marcus Bresnahan set season and career Fallbrook High School boys basketball records for three-point shots made.

Bresnahan sank 83 treys during the 2006-07 season, bringing his career total to 221. “It’s just an honor to have those, and I’ll never forget my experience at Fallbrook High School,” Bresnahan said.

Bresnahan, who was on the freshman team as a ninth-grader but spent three years on the Warrior varsity, broke his own single-season record of 75 successful three-point shots set during his sophomore season. Prior to that 2004-05 season, the single-season record had been held by Tim Manning, who put 66 treys into the net in 2002-03. Manning had also held the team career record with 182 three-point shots made between 2000 and 2003 before Bresnahan broke that record this year.

“He really doesn’t care about the record,” said Fallbrook head coach Mike West. “He just cared about the team’s success.”

West explained that Bresnahan might have enhanced his record but instead often passed to teammates in better position to make a shot. “He passed up many, many shots,” West said.

West saw his first glimpse of Bresnahan’s potential when the player was a freshman. “We knew he had a legitimate chance of being one of the best shooters ever to come through the high school,” West said.

His 75 three-pointers as a sophomore made others aware of his skills. “All the coaches know Marcus as one of the best shooters in San Diego,” West said. “He kind of proved that as a sophomore.”

As Bresnahan’s reputation grew among opposing teams, it became increasingly difficult for him to take shots from good positions. “It was very difficult for him to get open shots, especially his senior year,” West said.

Bresnahan said that his top memory playing high school basketball was the come-from-behind win at home against Vista during his junior year. He also noted that the Warriors reached the CIF Division I playoffs during all three of his varsity seasons.
