Trees transform Fallbrook High campus

FALLBROOK — Thanks to a California “ReLeaf” grant, Fallbrook High School students and local Save Our Forest (SOF) volunteers, the school has a new green look along recently widened Stage Coach Lane.

On Saturday morning, April 7, 38 volunteers convened to plant 31 trees on the campus: 16 Australian willows along the school parking lot and 15 aristocratic pears along the newly developed softball field. Beforehand, students and other volunteers benefited from a course in tree-planting conducted by tree expert Mike Peters of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy.

The trees were provided through a SOF California “ReLeaf” grant that funds urban forestry projects. In addition, eight trees at the softball field were provided by Fallbrook Union High School District board member Mike Schulte.

School officials and area residents are especially pleased to have the trees as a finishing touch to the street improvements along Stage Coach.

Volunteers are always needed for SOF tree plantings and work parties. Those interested may call Jackie Heyneman at (760) 728-0889.
