Alums prepare for high school reunion

FALLBROOK — “Let’s take a step back in time to 1962 at Inglewood High School, where three couples double-dated, shared birthday pepperoni pizzas from Andy’s and visited Balboa Fun Zone during summer breaks. Lime Rickeys, ’57 Chevys, Friday night football games at the ‘Farm,’ cruising Hawthorne Boulevard – memories shared by three high school sweetheart couples 45 years later.”

Beverly and Bob Youngren, Janet and Gene Heyden and Donna and Jim Dutton are still married and all Fallbrook residents!

The Youngrens moved here in 1976 to raise their two children, Jennifer and Scott, who both married Fallbrook High graduates. As a local realtor for over 30 years and now retired, “It’s really wonderful to get together,” says Bev. “We laugh so much as if it were only yesterday that we had some wild and crazy adventures!”

The Duttons wanted to raise their family in a more rural lifestyle, and Bev sold them a home in 1984. Donna is currently employed with the Escondido School District and Jim recently retired from the education field. Everyone recognizes the names of John and Janelle Dutton in their athletic achievements while attending Fallbrook High School.

While the Youngrens were building their dream home, the Heydens came to visit. They bought land from Bev in 1994 and built their dream home almost next door to be enjoyed by all their family. A year later, Bev sold their daughter a home in Fallbrook, too. The Heydens have two granddaughters currently attending Fallbrook schools.

They will all have a chance to relive memories and catch up with fellow classmates at the upcoming 45th Inglewood High School reunion on September 29, to be held at Pala Mesa Resort. An icebreaker will be held on Friday, September 28, to enjoy Vince’s Pizza. Vince’s family owned Andy’s Pizza in Inglewood – a popular hangout for everyone in the 1960s. Gene Heyden worked for Andy’s Pizza during high school.

The Youngrens have attended all their class reunions. “Each has been better than the last one,” said Bev. “We sincerely hope all our children and grandchildren will have as many special memories as we have and cherish their special friendships.”
