St. Peter's announces essay winners

FALLBROOK — St. Peter’s Catholic School has announced the winners of recent essay contests.

Fifth-grader Kathryn Hanlon won the Daughters of the American Revolution contest with her essay, “Jamestown Colony is Settled.” Hanlon bested fifth grade participants at St. Peter’s as well as other local schools.

Eighth-grader Valerie Lizzaraga finished first in the Catholic Family Life Insurance contest with “For All the Saints.” She was selected from among 1,200 entries in the nationwide contest.

Sixth-grader Claudia Opperman won the Knights of Columbus contest with “What it Means to be a Catholic Citizen.” She earned her award in a statewide competition.

Finally, eighth-graders Emily Donnelly and Kathryn Crane won first and second place, respectively, in the Serra Club’s vocational essay contest.
