Adams honored as Volunteer of Year

Anne Adams was honored as a Volunteer of the Year at the County of San Diego’s 2007 Volunteer Recognition Program held April 18 at the County Administration Center.

Adams, a member of the Senior Volunteer Patrol based at the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation, was recommended for the Sheriff’s Department’s Volunteer of the Year Award by volunteer coordinator Julie Sutton. In 11 years as a member of the Senior Volunteer Patrol, Adams has accumulated more than 5,000 hours of service.

“I’m very proud. This is quite an honor,” Adams said.

Adams’ tasks include participation in the YANA (You Are Not Alone) outreach program to the elderly and disabled, which includes calls and visits. Adams also conducts security checks on the homes of absentee citizens, delivers daily arrest reports to the District Attorney’s office, provides traffic control, and sets out the radar trailer.

“She does everything,” said Manny Ortega, the administrator of the volunteer program for the Fallbrook substation. “She’s a terrific worker. She’s just got endless energy.”

Adams’ title at the substation is assistant administrator. “I enjoy it. I really do,” she said.

Adams moved to Fallbrook from Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, in 1992. “I’ve always volunteered for something in my life,” she said.

In February 1996 she was asked if she would like to join the Senior Volunteer Patrol. She responded by attending the academy program. “I have been there ever since,” she said.

“Very well deserved,” Ortega said of Adams’ honor.
