ESL efforts valuable at preschool

FALLBROOK — Students in the English as a Second Language (ESL) class, taught at Maie Ellis Elementary School site, are visiting the children at the Mike Choate Early Childhood Center each week to read books in English to the children. Caron Lieber has been teaching second language adult students for the district for the past ten years.

“Having the preschool so close is a bonus for my students as they get to put their English to use and help children at the same time,” Lieber said. “We’re really excited about this opportunity to work with the preschool students as it is a win-win situation for everyone.”

ESL classes are offered during the day and one night a week. There is a beginning class and an intermediate class. The evening class uses the computer lab at Maie Ellis so the students get a chance to work on computers and learn English at the same time.
