After-school exercise programs introduced

FALLBROOK — The Exercise Task Force Cooperative, a division of the Childhood Diabetes Prevention Program of Fallbrook CATCH (Community Access to Child’s Health), has begun two new sites for their after-school exercise program.

The Fallbrook Foursquare Church, located at 405 West Fig Street, started their program April 16 and will be held on Mondays and Fridays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The Apostolic Assembly Church, located at 135 East Ivy Street, started their Tuesday and Thursday program from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on April 24. Both sites offer free after-school games, exercise and healthy snacks in an effort to curb the rates of excess weight gain and obesity, which can lead to health problems including Type 2 diabetes.

Exercise Task Force Cooperative Coordinator Pat Sica is instrumental in organizing the programs. AVID teen volunteers from Fallbrook High School, along with adult mentors, provide the supervision to neighborhood children ages 5 to 15. Program sites take over the responsibility for the programs after an initial setup and transition period.
