Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team included three players whose performance during the 2006 season earned them all-CIF honors.
Goalie Lauren Woods was named to the all-CIF first team while defender Rachel Maxwell and midfielder/forward Devon Holman received second team all-CIF recognition.
“We made it to the semifinals and I only get one kid on first team,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite. “I felt that was not fair at all.”
Fallbrook’s all-CIF total was down from five who earned such accolades during the 2005 season, including three who were given first-team recognition. Four of those 2005 all-CIF players were seniors that season; the only junior was Woods, who had also received first-team honors for 2005.
“She’s worked very hard to get to where she is,” Waite said of Woods.
Maxwell is also a senior. “She’s an excellent player,” Waite said.
Holman is a junior. “My hope for her is to make the under-19 regional team in Futures,” Waite said.
The Futures regional tournament will take place May 12-13. In 2006 Holman was selected as an alternate for the under-16 national tournament.
“Her knowledge and interpretation of the game is really exciting to watch,” Waite said of Holman. “She stays with the ball all the way.”
