Smith shoots hole in one

Fallbrook resident Steve Smith shot a hole in one at a Welk Resort golf course April 12.

Smith achieved an ace on the 199-yard 13th hole of the Fountains Executive Golf Course. He used a driver to take his shot.

“Swing easy and I lost sight of the ball after it hit,” Smith said.

Smith searched for the ball and could not find it. “I went over and looked at the hole,” he said.

The ball had been perfectly placed. “I was absolutely astonished,” Smith said.

Smith, who has been playing golf for approximately 60 years, has had only one other hole in one during his golfing experience, which he shot about ten years ago at the Pala Mesa course. “They don’t come too often,” he said.

“I’m still kind of floating around on Cloud Nine,” Smith said. “I’m afraid of my next round. I’m afraid I’ll be spinning it all over the place thinking I can do it again.”

Smith golfs about once a week. He was living in La Crescenta when he took up the sport and has lived in Fallbrook for nearly 20 years.
