On Wednesday, April 25, the Fallbrook Warriors varsity and junior varsity boy’s volleyball teams faced off against the Carlsbad Lancers. Both teams put up a good fight, but the Lancers defeated both.

The JV team, led by sophomores Jake Robinson, Jared Braithwaite and Jeff Kolb, were defeated in two games by scores of 20-25 and 16-25. The team started off in a good fashion. They had the lead for most of the match, until the Lancers pulled away after a few minor mistakes. The second game was similar to the first; the Warriors led until about the fifteenth point and then fell apart. However, they improved as the match continued and look to boost their league standing.

The varsity team, coached by Tom Saunders, is 10-7 overall and 2-2 in league. The Warriors, who are suffering from several injuries, got one game off the Lancers, which was a great accomplishment. Led by Taylor Hughes, they lost the match 16-25, 25-23, 18-25 and 15-25. The Warriors displayed great teamwork and some good rallies but had some minor mistakes.

“The players played pretty well, but too many serves were lost and there were too many mistakes,” Saunders said.

Standouts in this match included Taylor Hughes, 11 kills and 5 blocks; Antoine Wilson, 4 kills and 3 blocks; and three others, who had 3 kills and 2 blocks apiece.

“The team stepped up, and with three starters out,” said Saunders. “I was proud they got one game on them.”
