Badaraco, Munson, Jercinovich, Shada named for honor

Kevin Jercinovich, Wade Munson and Tarynn Shada of Fallbrook High School and Jillisa Badaraco of Oasis High School were honored as outstanding students at the Fallbrook Community Student of the Month breakfast held May 3 at Fallbrook Golf Club’s Hukilau Restaurant.

Now celebrating its 11th year, the Student of the Month program has honored more than 330 exemplary high school students.

Kevin Jercinovich was selected for the honor as a result of a nomination by Fallbrook High counselor Connie Fellios.

“Kevin holds a 4.4 GPA and is ranked second in his class,” Fellios said. “He is a team member of the Fallbrook High track and cross country. He excels in all areas and displays a maturity beyond his

years. He has a wonderful sense of humor and charm along with a high moral character. Kevin is a liturgical minister for Fallbrook Skilled Nursing Home, involved in Habitat for Humanity and works part-time for the Grand Tradition.”

Jercinovich was also described as conscientious, honest, fun to be around, always there for friends and an inspiration to his family and peers.

“I would like to thank the community and my family for this honor,” Jercinovich said. “I especially want to thank Connie Fellios, who has inspired and assisted me throughout high school. I plan on attending UCLA and receiving a double major, one of which will be Japanese and the other I am still undecided on. I look forward to the future.”

Wade Munson was honored as a Student of the Month by Fallbrook High staff member Jan Levi.

“Wade is truly amazing,” Levi said. “I have known him since middle school. He has a big heart and many passions. He is involved in Fallbrook High School drama and theater and has performed in over 20 plays and musicals. He is a member of the Madrigals, a youth counselor for Fallbrook Presbyterian and formed the nonprofit program Free Hope, which assists the needy and poor in Fallbrook.”

Munson’s biggest passion is working with the Invisible Children program. He, along with friends, will travel to Africa this summer. Together they have raised $10,000 to help protect the children in Northern Uganda from being stolen from their families by rebels and turned into soldiers.

“It is truly a big honor to be here,” Munson said. “Jan is lovely and awesome to nominate me. Thank you for the opportunity to be here. My life revolves around people that I love and I have the very best.”

Munson’s future plans include attending UC Santa Barbara, where he plans to major in the field of biology.

Tarynn Shada was recommended for Student of the Month by Fallbrook High teacher Dave Evans.

“Tarynn is a truly remarkable young woman. She is a beautiful flower,” said Evans. “She is a quiet, kind, warm and generous ‘worker bee.’ She is determined to be successful and I am proud to be her teacher.”

Shada has been a member of the Fallbrook High golf team for the last four years. She is also a competitive equestrian in the English Hunter Jumpers field. Shada will be attending Fresno State and participating on their equestrian team while pursuing her degree in the nursing field.

“I would like to thank Mr. Evans and all the wonderful teachers at Fallbrook High School,” Shada said. “Mr. Evans has always been there for me. He took the time to care and ask when he felt that something was not right or bothering me. I also want to thank the community for this honor.”

Jillisa Badaraco was named Student of the Month by Oasis High teacher Linda Poznanter.

“Jillisa is friendly, bright, sensitive, creative and encouraging to other students,” said Poznanter. “She has undergone a metamorphosis, from the caterpillar to butterfly. Her energy is unsurpassed. She is focused and has intense motivation. I like to think of Jillisa as a sprite or hummingbird.”

Badaraco said she will attend either MiraCosta College or College of the Pacific. Her plans include a possible degree in journalism.

“I have enjoyed the independent study program, which is a unique style of schooling,” Badaraco said. “The staff at Oasis has enriched my life. They are a constant source of help and support. These amazing people have instilled strong morals and values in me and I will truly miss them.”

Friends, family and members of the business and service communities, as well as representatives of elected officials, attended the prestigious event. Numerous organizations provided certificates of achievement and gifts to the students honored.
