Third season of FGSL draws to a close

The successful third season of the Fallbrook Girls Softball League (FGSL) ended with Closing Ceremonies and Championship Day at Ingold Fields on Saturday, April 28. This season the league was comprised of five divisions, 19 teams and 213 team members. President Shannon Koran and Vice-President Patti Drew began the closing event with heartfelt thanks.

“We would like to thank all of the board members, sponsors, volunteer coaches, umpires and team parents for another successful year,” said Drew. “The support was overwhelming. Our Gift Basket Raffle that kicked off the season on Opening Day brought in over $1,900, while our Baskin Robbins pie fundraiser added another $1,000.”

“We had a fabulous season and are so proud of our players,” added Koran.

Proceeds from the fundraisers are put in a general fund to assist with the cost of softballs, equipment, uniforms, helmets, park fees and to keep the registration cost down.

Following Drew and Koran’s presentations, some of the team coaches recognized, thanked and presented the sponsors of each team with a token of their appreciation. Presenters of the five divisions were: Patti Drew – Juniors, Shawn Barrett – Majors, Jodi Boosel – Minors, Steve Zelasco – Mini Minors and Bob Tucker – Rookies.

A special recognition award was given to Chairman Robert Smith of the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Accepting the award on behalf of Smith was Coach Joe Nejo of the Pala Dolls.

Another special award was presented to some of the youngest members of the FGSL, in the Rookies Division, for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship.
