Apartment recycling programs expand in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — The County of San Diego continues to expand its recycling efforts in apartment complexes throughout Fallbrook. The Solana Center for Environmental Innovation has been assisting the county in expanding the apartment recycling program by meeting with apartment managers and residents, explaining how the recycling program operates and distributing blue plastic tote bags in which residents can collect their recyclables. The apartment recyclables are then placed in special recycle dumpsters at the same time residents take out their regular trash.

According to Laura McIntire, Pollution Prevention Program Manager for the Solana Center, “There are several complexes in Fallbrook that are enthusiastically embracing the recycling program and doing a terrific job.” She cited the Turn Again Arms Apartments and the Fallbrook View Apartments as examples of very successful apartment recycling programs.

The recycling program includes the distribution of literature about recycling, the blue totes, recycling dumpsters and/or recycling carts and, in some cases, a “re-use” shed where residents can leave furniture and other bulky items they no longer use. Included in the materials distributed is the pamphlet “Apartment and Condominium Recycling: Implementing the Mandatory Recycling Ordinance: A Step-by-Step Guide for Owners and Managers,” which is also available at http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/dpw/management/pdf/ApartmentCondo.pdf. Materials are distributed in both English and Spanish.
