Archaeological Center dedicates curatorial vaults, facility remodel

ESCONDIDO — On Saturday, June 23, the San Diego Archaeological Center is hosting a dedication ceremony and reception for members, trustees, government officials, Cultural Resource Management groups, archaeologists, Native American tribes and the public to celebrate the installation of new curatorial vaults and remodel of the center’s Culture Classroom, library and collections research lab. The dedication will be at 12 p.m., followed by a reception from 1 to 3. The center is located at 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road (1.1 miles east of the Wild Animal Park).

The center received a grant for $490,000 from the California Cultural and Historic Endowment Fund to support this important project. The new curatorial shelving units installed by the Olpin Group will enable the center to better organize and curate artifacts that represent over 10,000 years of the San Diego region’s cultural history. Additionally, the project funds a portion of improvements to the center’s classroom, research areas, lab and library.

Admission to this event is free to the public, but reservations are required by June 16 at the center’s Web site, http://www.sandiegoarchaeology.org.

The San Diego Archaeological Center was created in 1993 to provide an archaeological curation facility for the San Diego region.
