Sorensen Ranch- illegal from the start

Mr. Sorensen of Sorensen’s Ranch Produce has implied, through his Village News advertisement and opinion letter, that the Rainbow Planning Group is the reason his business was shut down. But the truth is, Mr. Sorensen, by his own admission, never went through the proper channels for getting his property, zoned as residential, rezoned for commercial business. I would like for Mr. Sorensen to acknowledge his own mistake, rather than trying to blame the Rainbow Planning Group for his error.

As for the Rainbow Planning Group’s involvement, Mr. Sorensen did not approach the Rainbow Planning Group until after his business was already in operation for several months on his property that is still zoned for residential use only. When Mr. Sorensen approached the Rainbow Planning group, several members expressed their concern about Mr. Sorensen’s apparent disregard for the County zoning laws. In addition, Mr. Sorensen had not officially applied for the zoning change with the County of San Diego Department of Planning and Land Use when he approached the Rainbow Planning Group for their approval.

The truth is, Sorensen’s Ranch Produce was not legal from the start. Our zoning laws are developed to protect our rights as homeowners and create a harmonious community. It is important to consider the potential effects of Sorensen’s Ranch Produce on its residential neighbors. I would urge Mr. Sorensen to go through the proper channels if he chooses to reopen Sorensen’s Ranch Produce. As a planning group member I can not in good conscience endorse an illicit operation.

These are my personal observations and opinions and do not officially represent the Rainbow Planning Group.
