Fallbrook Players offering summer acting workshops

FALLBROOK — Think Fast! Those are words to live by this summer as the Fallbrook Players are offering workshops that will include the techniques necessary to improve not only theater skills but confidence with life situations as well.

Beginning July 24, the Performing Arts Workshop, led by Diane Felthous, will be offered at the Bonsall Community Center.

In this workshop, participants will learn about monologues, theater dance and choreography, stage movement, audition techniques, character development, theater makeup, theater vocabulary, stage singing and more. This workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the cost is $85 for the four days.

The second workshop, also at the Bonsall Community Center, is a two-day class taught by Susan Korean. Day one, “Tuesday at the Improv,” will focus on improvisation skills, thinking on your feet, body language and impromptu routines. The second day, “The Next Best Thing,” is fashioned after the popular TV show. Dialects, movement and staying in character will be explored. Classes run from 9 a.m. until noon. There will be a student showcase for parents given at each workshop.

“Last year, these workshops were a huge hit with the kids and I am confident that enrollment will fill quickly,” said Connie Knox, president of the nonprofit group. “The types of skills taught in these workshops are so important and we are hoping that parents will encourage more boys to try theater arts, as these are the types of skills that will be needed when making the Heisman Trophy acceptance speech.”

“Unfortunately,” she added, “many dads see theater as maybe not manly enough, but listening to some of the interviews on ESPN will show them that everyone needs to be well rounded in order to succeed in this competitive world. I would encourage guys to bring a buddy and give it a try.”
