High school has new Web site

Finding out what’s going on at our local high school is easier than ever, thanks to the new Web site that has been under construction the last several months. Designed by a committee headed up by Stephen Scheidel, a mathematics teacher who also holds the position of district technology coordinator, http://www.fallbrookhs.org is an impressive site certain to be a valuable tool to students, parents and additional community members.

“It’s ten times what we had before,” Scheidel said. “It’s in pretty good shape right now, but we will keep adding to it, refining it and making updates.” Already receiving over 1,000 visits per day, the new Web site provides valuable information relating to the curriculum, activities, sports, arts and more. The site has the ability to carry teachers’ lecture notes, class assignments and more for the student and parent to access.

“We canvassed the opinions of staff members, administration and the students,” Scheidel said of the project that began just before Christmas break in December 2006. Scheidel says he enlisted the help of Educational Network for the site’s design.

On the new Web site, parents and students can easily access the school’s daily bulletin, latest news and announcements. Want to look up a particular sports schedule or see what games are being played on campus in a particular week? This site can help.

wants this site to be a huge community tool,” Scheidel noted.

The ease in navigating the site takes the stress out of trying to make contact by phone and provides an efficient means of direct communication. One example of that is the staff directory on the site that makes it easy to contact a teacher.

Ever review Fallbrook High School’s School Accountability Report Card? Now you have an easy opportunity to do just that. Even those looking for a job can easily review employment opportunities with the district on this site.

One fascinating option on this Web site is the ability to translate information into Spanish. When users click on the Español tool, it automatically (although not perfectly) translates the information on the screen into Spanish.

While Scheidel says he and his committee have made good headway, and the site is well on its way to being everything he envisions, he says if he could recruit some volunteers to assist with regular Web updates, it would be a tremendous help.

“We really welcome the community to get involved so we can make sure the site includes everything we need,” Scheidel said. “Volunteers would be much appreciated to help with certain tasks.”
