Hike through time in San Pasqual Valley

ESCONDIDO — The San Diego Archaeological Center at 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road invites families and outdoor enthusiasts to welcome the start of summer with a “Hike through time in the San Pasqual Valley” on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to noon. Led by center staff and volunteers, participants will explore the archaeology, history and botany of this timeless valley.

The one-hour, mild to moderate hike from the center to San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park and back will include sights of the cultural resources and plant life utilized by the valley’s earliest residents. Participants should bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a camera as well as appropriate footgear.

Upon returning to the center, the event will continue with cordage-making, pinch pot creations and native seed planting. This event is free for center members; a suggested donation is requested for non-members. Space is limited and reservations required. Please e-mail Annemarie Cox at [email protected] or call (760) 291-0370.

On the same day, the San Pasqual Battlefield Volunteer Association (SPVA) is presenting the third annual “Salute to the Fallen: 1846 to Present” educational program at San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park. Beginning at 11 a.m., SPVA members will be serving up a fundraiser BBQ for $5 a plate. Hamburgers, chips and drinks will be served until 1 p.m. Highlighting this event will be a memorial ceremony conducted at 1:30 p.m. For more information regarding this event, please call (760) 737-2201.
