Spears honored with piano award

FALLBROOK — Piano student Sara Spears was recently awarded a trophy by the North San Diego Branch of the Music Teachers Association of California for achieving 100 percent on the theory portion of the annual testing program, the Certificate of Merit.

There are approximately 800 students in North San Diego County who participate in this program each year in levels ranging from Preparation to Advanced. Spears was one of three at Level 5 to receive this honor. Additionally, Spears received Branch Honors for the performance portion of the test.

Spears resides in Fallbrook, is homeschooled and just completed the tenth grade. In addition to playing the piano, she is learning to play the viola. She volunteers regularly at the Skilled Nursing Facility, where she often entertains with her music.
